Post-Dispatch executive is promoted

Astrid J. Garcia, vice president of human resources, labor and operations at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, has been named vice president of human resources for the newspaper’s parent company, Lee Enterprises Inc. She will be based at the corporate headquarters in Davenport, Iowa.

Garcia will be succeeded by Don Hesse, a 16-year veteran of the Post-Dispatch.

“Astrid brings a stellar record of achievement in all facets of human resources leadership,” said Lee CEO Mary Junck. “She also brings impressive legal experience and keen expertise in print and digital operations and production.”

Garcia joined Lee at the Post-Dispatch in 2006 after working at the former Knight Ridder newspaper chain. From 1981 to 1985, she served as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Connecticut and New York. She is a graduate of Columbia University and Brooklyn Law School.

Garcia succeeds Vytenis P. Kuraitis, who is retiring.

Lee owns 46 daily newspapers and a joint interest in four others, along with digital products and nearly 300 specialty publications in 22 states.
