Human Resources Generalist

Oceaneering is a global oilfield provider of engineered services and products primarily to the offshore oil and gas industry, with a focus on deepwater applications. Position Summary

Performs professional level Human Resources work and carries out responsibilities in several functional areas such as employee relations, legal compliance, performance management, employment, recruitment, compensation and employee benefits.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors on the proper handling of all human resource issues such as promotions, talent management, disciplinary action, terminations, leave of absences and layoffs.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to fosters support toward company goals.
  • Responsible for the new hire process and maintenance through life of employment.
  • Responds to inquiries from employees and managers regarding policies, procedures, and programs in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains liaison with payroll department to ensure accurate processing of pay cycles.
  • Processes and monitors PeopleSoft system data entry.
  • Processes and monitors documentation and correspondence with regard to benefit plan participation such as insurance, personnel transactions such as new hires, promotions, transfers, vacation and sick day balances, leaves of absence, employee relations, terminations, and exit interviews.
  • Leads local wellness initiatives under the direction of Corporate Benefits department.
  • Coordinate the merit increase process and provide need guidance to the managers.
  • Participates in and collects data from compensation surveys to maintain compensation similarities with industry.
  • Responsible for the coordination of drug-testing in compliance with corporate initiatives.
  • Counsel employees on issues related to benefits, compensation, terminations and personal matters.
  • Partners with Corporate Human Resources to address complex and / or serious employee relations matters.
  • Recruits new employees as required through the process of creating job descriptions, job postings, interviewing, checking references, and issuing job offers. In partnership with Corporate Talent Acquisition builds and fosters relationships with college recruiting campuses and career centers to increase pool of college recruiting candidates.
  • Responds to strict deadlines and participates in unemployment hearings.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory requirements.


Bachelor’s Degree required in HR, Business, or a relevant discipline. PHR certification a plus.

Five to seven years of relevant human resources experience.

Must be self-motivated with strong communication skills; well organized with the ability to exercise good judgment in a fast paced environment and comfortable with meeting high expectations. Knowledge of recruiting practices and high level of industry ethics required.

Strong writing skills and attention to detail.

Ability to influence and hold crucial conversation with individuals at all levels in the organization.

Must have an understanding of EEO laws and regulations, benefits programs, recruiting systems and processes, and other employment practices.
