GM Names Quattrone to Run Human Resources, Seeking Top Spokesman

General Motors Co. (GM), under
investigation for its slow recall of 2.59 million small cars
with potentially faulty ignition switches, is the changing heads
of its human resources and public relations departments.

John Quattrone will become the company’s new senior vice
president of global human resources, replacing Melissa Howell,
is leaving the company to pursue other interests, the Detroit-based company said today in a statement on its website. Selim
Bingol, who last year added public policy to his public-relations duties, is also leaving the company to pursue other
interests, GM said.

Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra, whose first three
months in the role have been consumed by the recall crisis, is
putting together her executive team. Barra is an engineer by
training and she spent almost two years running GM’s human
resources operations after the company’s 2009 bankruptcy.
Quattrone is a native of Syracuse, New York, and has been with
GM since 1975.

“John brings to the job a deep and rich breadth of
experience across all levels of the enterprise,” Barra said int
the statement. “This background is invaluable as we create
lasting change that puts the customer at the center of how we
work and how we measure ourselves going forward.”
